Food Allergy Buddy Program
The Food Allergy Buddy Program is a space where kids with food allergies can connect with one another in order to make the challenge of living with allergies easier. An older "Big Buddy” with food allergies is paired up with a “Little Buddy“ with the same or similar allergies where the Big Buddy serves as a mentor as their Little Buddy navigates life with food allergies.
The Big Buddy
For our program, the Big Buddy is a person with food allergies between the ages of 14 and 18. They will mentor their assigned Little Buddy, talking with them at least once a month, and whenever their Little Buddy needs help. The Big Buddies can talk about their experiences living with allergies, give advice to their Little Buddy directly, and counsel the parents/gaurdians of the Little Buddy whenever necessary.
The Little Buddy
The Little Buddy can be any kid between the ages of 6 and 13 who suffers from food allergies. The Little Buddy should try to learn as much as they can from their Big Buddy. They are encouraged to reach out to their Big Buddy whenever they want to ask questions or voice concerns about any issues they may be facing.
